“Describes the Military Engagement at Lexington” This widely circulated account of the first military engagement in the American War of Independence (19 April 1775) was written by journalist Isaiah Thomas. Though it was by no means the first account of this incident to appear in print, it had a special kind of authority–since Thomas himself had been a witness to the fighting. Go here to view article
