Porcupine’s Gazette

The Market Street Scoundrel” British-born Cobbett was a staunch–some might say extreme–Federalist, a member of the party of President Washington. He established this newspaper in Philadelphia (like many 18th-century writers he used a pseudonym, but everyone knew who “Peter Porcupine” was). The “Market Street Scoundrel” he was talking about here was Benjamin Franklin Bache, the grandson of Ben Franklin (and everyone would have known that, too). Go here to view article
